This past March I participated in the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention in Dallas along with my friends in The Optimist. I was the only videographer to go to the convention, and I participated in the Live Video News category.
I have only ever covered a live event once when I was in high school, so I had a little bit of experience with it. I debated whether or not I wanted to do a stand-up for the video. Again, I had only done a proper stand-up once in a class I was taking at the time. I didn’t feel confident enough in my skills to do it, so I opted for a voiceover instead. I feel like if I had filmed a stand-up, it would have improved the quality of the video.
I guess I did well enough, though, because my video earned Honorable Mention at the awards ceremony. I was completely satisfied to get Honorable Mention at my first TIPA convention. I can’t wait to participate again next year.
