“If a person gets bit by a kissing bug that is infected with the parasite – whenever the insect is feeding it will defecate and if the person happens to scratch or itch or rub the feces into the bite wound – that is how people can catch the disease.”

This is my first reported piece while interning with Texas Standard. I got in contact with all three women that were included in the piece, wrote the lead and questions for the interviews, conducted all three interviews, edited the interview audio, wrote the final script, recorded/edited my narration, and put the whole story together.

This was, by far, my favorite piece I’ve worked on throughout my internship.
