Your News Update – Google News on Assistant | Blog

In July 2019, I was hired by Vaco to work on a new Google Assistant product called Your News Update. Google partnered with many notable media outlets such as ABC, NPR, The Associated Press and The Washington Post to provide audio news briefings for all Google Assistant users.

My responsibilities as an Audio Curator were to segment and edit audio clips provided by a media outlets’ RSS feed before publishing them to the Google Assistant app. I also wrote headlines for audio clips that weren’t provided one by its source.

Additionally, I conducted reviews of other media outlets, deciding whether or not they could be added to the app without any modifications from the audio curation team. If an outlet provided content that needed edits before being published to Assistant, that’s where an audio curator came in to bridge the gap.

Google’s Your News update launched on November 20, 2019 with 47 partners and 1,500 stories in the system. The service is expected to be expanded internationally this year.
