For those who know me, you know I love landscape photography. Streets, mountains, sunrises, you name it. So when my husband asked me a week or two ago if I was interested in trying a new type of photography, I pretty much said, “No way – people move. Landscapes don’t,” and that was that. Not even a week later, I was at Pioneer Farms for my first maternity shoot, armed with Pinterest inspiration boards, good tennis shoes, and a whole lot of stress.
I had never done a professional portrait shoot before. Most people start out with taking a few shots of friends for their LinkedIn or social media profiles. I was going off the deep end.
I had a blast during the shoot. DeWayne and Kirsten were all on board for the silly poses I came prepared with, and they had some poses they wanted to do as well. I really began to relax when I sat down to edit the photos. I was nervous since we had decided to shoot when the sun was at its highest, which created strong shadows on a few of the photos. I don’t know what I would do without Adobe Lightroom.
All in all, it was refreshing to try something new. No expectations had been set; the Mangans just wanted to have some photos celebrating the birth of their first child. I got a free pass when it came to trying different poses, backgrounds and lighting conditions. I’m definitely interested in branching out more into the world of portrait photography.
